our angel herd
Those we have loved never quite leave us; they are a part of our heart and their memories remain. This page honors the members of our herd who have crossed the rainbow bridge. Each of these adopted and rescued herd members were surrounded by love and passed peacefully from this lifetime. It was an honor to have known and loved them.
Beau
(2004 - 2021)
Beau was a Miniature Chilean Llama, so he was about ¾ the size of a standard Llama. Beau spent much of his life as a stud sire at another farm here in Georgia, passing his line to many gorgeous black Llama babies. He came to Your Alpaca Cottage to retire in his later years and quickly adopted his new herd family. He was our herd’s alpha member, so our cottage guests would often see him standing by and keeping watch over the rest of the herd. Beau was regal, beautiful, and a true gentleman. Beau was such a gentle and intelligent Llama and taught me a great deal. He was so friendly and good on a lead that he once paraded in the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day parade alongside Skyboy Blue! He was a wonderful ambassador and We are so happy to have been able to give him a happy and loving retirement home here at Your Alpaca Cottage.
Hawkeye
(2000 - 2019)
Hawkeye was one of our original four herd members here at Your Alpaca Cottage. He was a Huacaya Alpaca and was adopted from a farm in the Northeast that needed to place their remaining Alpacas in good homes. Hawkeye was such a sweet Huacaya Alpaca and the frizzle on his ears and ‘milk mustache’ were his most endearing physical traits. Hawkeye was also a bit of a drama queen ~ when he first came to our farm and we tried to walk him on a halter, he would collapse to the ground in very dramatic fashion, as if the halter was really, really heavy! As it turns out, this was behavior that had started in his youth and he was never trained otherwise. It took 2 years of trust-building and gentle training to teach him how to walk on a lead, but in working together we ultimately got there. Hawkeye was an unforgettable member of our herd and loved by both guests and our family here at Your Alpaca Cottage.
Jackie
(2001 - 2017)
Jackie was one of our original four herd members here at Your Alpaca Cottage. He was a Suri Alpaca and was adopted from a farm in the Northeast that needed to place their remaining animals in good homes. The farm owner was widowed and her mother was older and in need of extra care, so she didn’t’ have the ability to manage her herd as well as she had over the years. Often when Alpacas and Llamas are rescued, it is because circumstances have changed, typically due to health or a change in the financial situation. Jackie was funny and usually disheveled - His prior owner would say “He’s like an unmade bed” was how his prior owner described him. Disheveled or not, we were so glad to give Jackie a forever home at Your Alpaca Cottage.
Penwick
(1998 - 2016)
Penwick was one of our original four herd members here at Your Alpaca Cottage. He was a Suri Alpaca and was adopted from a farm in the Northeast that needed to place their remaining animals in good homes. His gorgeous cream and light rose grey fiber reminded me of a creamsicle. Penwick was incredibly intelligent, sweet, and so curious. He loved visiting with guests at the herd gate and was almost as much of a fan of carrots as Loverboy is currently. Believer it or not, Penwick actually made friends with one of the roosters on our farm and could often be seen sharing his grain feed with the Roo. It was truly an honor to be able to give Penwick a forever home at Your Alpaca Cottage.
